  • What is Invisalign?

    April 15th, 2010 by admin

Invisalign is a registered trademark of Align Technology, Inc. and it pertains to a series of removable, invisible braces someone wears to correct one’s teeth alignment.

Tooth decay is never nice but even those who don’t suffer from this may suffer from misaligned teeth, which can also be a cause of a lot of anguish. It used to be that the best way to correct misaligned teeth is to use braces and we all know how many jokes and grief that can bring!

This is why Invisalign is so popular nowadays. You get to correct the formation of your teeth MINUS the ugly look.

How to Get Your Pair of Invisalign Braces

If you want to fix your crooked or widely spaced teeth then contact a dentist now. As of today, around 1 million people have used or are using Invisalign so it’s almost impossible that your dentist has not heard of this wonderful product yet.

Once you book your appointment, the dentists will examine the current condition of your teeth and if it is indeed something that Invisalign can correct. The information they get is filled out on an Invisalign treatment form, which is sent to Invisalign.

With this information, Invisalign uses the latest technology to create a ‘treatment sequence’, which is composed of several invisible braces you need to wear sequentially to achieve the desired dental results.

At this point, the braces themselves are not made yet. The ‘treatment sequence’ is sent your dentist for review and/or adjustments. (Your dentist may opt to show to you the proposed treatment plan.)

Once approval for the sequence of braces has been made, the complete set of Invisalign braces needed for your complete treatment is produced and then sent to your dentist.

    How Invisalign Braces Work

Each Invisalign brace applies just enough pressure to ‘move’ your teeth into a certain place. So when you wear your first brace you may feel that it’s too snug or that the fit is not right. It’s supposed to be this way because it’s trying to adjust your teeth.

Once the right position is achieved (on average, .25 millimeters of change), you move on to the next Invisalign brace in the series. In terms of days, each brace is worn for about two weeks. Don’t worry as your dentist will monitor the progress.

As you can imagine, the number of braces depend on what you need corrected and the current or formation of your teeth.
