Dr. Marilyn Calvo DDS of Encino, CA has achieved accredited status in the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD) - joining just over 260 dental professionals in the world who have earned this prestigious designation. Marilyn Calvo DDS reached this status through dedication to continuing education and careful adherence to clinical protocol.

Through the AACD's Accreditation program for dentists and dental laboratory technicians, AACD members who wish to become Accredited must undergo a three-part process consisting of a written examination, submission of clinical cases for evaluation and an oral examination. Each candidate must also attend a series of workshops as part of the program. While each part must be completed in sequence, candidates have up to five years to complete the program after successfully completing the written examination.
"There is no professionally required course of study and testing that a dentist must complete before being allowed to advertise themselves as a cosmetic dentist," advised Dr. Calvo. "Any dentist can proclaim him/herself a 'cosmetic dentist' regardless of whether or not they have invested in the postdoctoral training and more importantly, testing that can verify their expertise in aesthetic smile designs". She explained, "There has to be a way the consumer can understand who is capable of performing these procedures at a higher skill level. Not all dentists have the knowledge, the judgment, the training, and the experience to perform excellent cosmetic procedures. The accreditation process assures that the accredited dentist has all these attributes. The patients benefit from the higher quality of service and treatment that an accredited dentist will be able to provide for them."
The American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry is the largest international dental organization dedicated to advancing excellence in the art and science of cosmetic dentistry. Founded in 1984, the AACD has over 8,000 members in more than 60 countries worldwide. Members of the Academy include cosmetic and reconstructive dentists, dental laboratory technicians, dental hygienists, dental assistants, educators, researchers and students.
